Had Lakefront's Rosie at the Beer Barons World of Beer. I like Flander's reds and thought this was an awesome beer at that time. Fast forward to today. Sat down to enjoy a bottle tonight, and its a brett bomb. The brett overpowers everything else in the flavor profile. At first I thought I must have a bad bottle, but a reading of the label reveals the brett was deliberate. It must not have had much of an impact when the beer was young. Maybe they added it at bottling? IMO, the brett is so strong it pushes it out of the Flanders red style and into a lambic (or gueze?). Too bad I was looking forward to enjoying the second bottle. Maybe I'll break it out for the brewers game for someone else to enjoy. Shame, as I really like the beer when it was young.
I'll just have to drown my sorrows in a bottle of Ommegang's Zuur A proper Flanders Red |
